Ginny Gibbs - Lead vocals, guitar, percussion
One version of Ginny's bio involves a normal upbringing, being nurtured by loving parents into classical voice and music since a toddler. Another, quite different story, suggests that a red-haired "changling" baby girl was found in her [human] parent's crib, which resided quite near a faerie [sidhe] mound in southern Ohio. In any case, her formal [human] education in voice and creative writing have served her in good stead as the lead singer of Embarr. Her Irish Gaelic is way better than our English, which makes us wonder about the changeling thing. She is also becoming dangerous on the bodhran, When she's not singing, walking her Australian Shepherds, or teaching yoga, she might be found playing one of her Taylor guitars.
Veronica Cieri - Electric and Acoustic Violins, Harmony vocals
Veronica Cieri, from Dearborn, Michigan, began taking violin lessons at the age of seven. She is currently earning her BA in performance at Western Michigan University, but has been abducted by nefarious Embarrians into a parallel universe, and there is being thoroughly assimiliated into the Celtic genre. Resistance is futile.
Daniel Bouwman - Guitar, vocals, percussion
Daniel has been attempting to play guitar since his garage band days in junior high school. He took a few years away from serious musicianship to earn graduate degrees, create a career as a health professional, and stuff like that. Along the way, he has been diverted by things such as rapier fencing, middle eastern percussion, rope rescue teams, wine-making, martial arts, and other stuff which has absolutely no economic utility. He has a strong predilection for Taylor guitars, as he picks & strums his way through the Celtic genre, and occasionally croaks out a song or two. He has been involuntarily conscripted as Embarr Sound Man, Booking Agent, Band Manager, and Webmeister.
Aaron Miller - Guest Percussionist
Much of the time, Embarr performs without a full time percusionist - but when we are able, we try to shanghai Aaron into playing with us. Aaron, when playing with Embarr, mostly plays bodhran (Irish frame drum), cajon (Latin American box drum), and other light/hand percussion instruments. He has been playing percussion for about as long as Dan has been playing guitar (years & years!) and is currently in about a half-dozen bands, at last count. We love Aaron's subtle touch on the skins, and his high awareness of musical currents.
Jim Clawsson - Cellist, Octave Mandolins
We encountered Jim at the local Irish music sessions some while back; our nefariously laid plans to bring him into Embarr have borne fruit, and he will debuting with us at our March performances! Jim is a superb instrumentalist whose skills on the octave mandolin and cello (yes, cello!) complement our efforts beautifully! We will handcuff him to his chair and push him and his playing skills into the spotlight from time to time as well!
RIchard Koontz - Guest Flautist, Whistles, Bones
Richard is a delight to play with! When opportunity presents (he's in a coupla of other bands as well), we will gleefully import him into Embarr, where his vast knowledge of tunes and his subtle accompaniment of songs just amplifies greatlly what we are setting out to do!
